Onsala Station report: * 20 telescope: We are about to install a new control system. The main reason for this is that we for some time have had problems with the antenna drive. The antenna stops occasionally during slewing. This affects space-geodesy VLBI experiments in particular. * EVN-session 2 and 3, 2005: No major problem. We have had some minor problems such as: * High wind speeds * Mark5 systems hangs occasionally * Antenna drive problem (20m, see above). * RFI, in particular at 18 cm. This affects the calibration for the user. * e-VLBI: Onsala have participated in several of the tests organized by JIVE including the EVN EC press event on July 07. So far we have obtained fringes at 256 Mbps to JIVE. Furthermore, we have participated in e-VLBI demos organized by the group at Haystack. * IGRID05: A real-time e-VLBI demonstration was carried out in September at the iGRID conference in San Diego which yielded fringes between Westford, Goddard Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory (GGAO) and Onsala 20 m at 512 Mbps/station. A short article can be found at http://www.interactions.org/sgtw/2005/1019/evlbi_igrid_more.html * SCO05: Another demo took place at the SuperComputing 2005 conference in Seattle in November. Haystack obtained fringes successfully with Westford, Onsala and GGAO at 512 Mbps/station for literally hours with very few problems. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Director | Phone : +46 (0)31 772 5520 (direct) Professor R.S.Booth | Phone : +46 (0)31 772 5525 (secretary) Onsala Space Observatory | Phone : +46 (0)31 772 5500 (exchange) Chalmers University of Technology | Fax : +46 (0)31 772 5590 S-439 92 Onsala | E-mail: roy@oso.chalmers.se Sweden | http://www.oso.chalmers.se ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
