CALL FOR PROPOSALS - ARO HEINRICH HERTZ SUBMILLIMETER TELESCOPE
Call for proposals at the Sub-millimeter Telescope (SMT 10m)
This is a call for observing proposals for the Heinrich Hertz Submillimeter Telescope on Mt. Graham, Arizona for a scheduling period from March 2003 - June 2003. This facility is operated by the Arizona Radio Observatory (ARO), University of Arizona, in collaboration with the MPI fur Radioastronomie (MPIfR). The telescope is expected to be available on a limited basis for use by the general astronomical community.
Details about the telescope and its instrumentation may be found under "Specifications" on the SMT web site (http://maisel.as.arizona.edu:8080/), which is also accessible through the Steward Observatory home page (http://www.as.arizona.edu); or by contacting the ARO staff. Receiver and spectrometer details are given in the SMT web site.
Proposals should consist of the standard SMT proposal cover sheet; a brief scientific justification (not more than 2 pages); and a source list with observing time requirements and justification. SMT proposal cover sheets are available from the SMT web site (under "Observing at the SMT"), in either Postscript or LaTeX format.
Proposals will be reviewed by the Submillimeter Telescope TAC, appointed by the Steward Observatory Director. Scheduling of successful proposals will be done according to availability of the receivers requested. Weather-dependent priority scheduling will be used for this scheduling period, with successful proposals requiring extremely low water vapor (225 GHz zenith optical depth <= .06) given priority for observations during optimum weather conditions. If you wish your proposal to be considered for priority observing, please indicate this in your abstract on the proposal cover sheet.
Electronic submissions will be excepted in Postscript, MSWord or PDF formats. Please submit your proposals by January 15, 2003 to:
