POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE or STAFF SCIENTIST


The Submillimeter Telescope Observatory is a collaboration between the Max- Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie, Bonn, Germany and Steward Observatory, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona. Located at 3200 m altitude and 200 km from Tucson, Arizona on Mount Graham, the telescope began routine operation in early 1996. The Submillimeter Telescope will concentrate on observations in the wavelength range 0.3-1.2 mm with the use of advanced SIS receivers and 3He-bolometer systems. A position is available immediately for a Staff Scientist to join the small team which will be responsible for the operation and support of the observatory. We seek a person with a submillimeter technology background especially with the design of receiver systems and gaussian beam optics. Observing experience for support of the telescope operation and to assist visiting observers is important. A Ph.D is required. The successful candidate will be employed by The University of Arizona. This non-tenure track position is subject to annual renewal based upon satisfactory performance. Title and salary will be commensurate with experience. Locations of work are Tucson and Mount Graham.
