Radio monitoring of gamma-ray loud blazars



Being dominated by non-thermal emission from aligned relativistic jets, blazars allow us to elucidate the physics of extragalactic jets, and, ultimately, how the energy is extracted from the central black hole in radio-loud AGN. Crucial information is provided by their spectral energy distribution (SED) from radio to gamma-rays, their trends with luminosity and correlated multi-frequency variability. Since December 2004 we perform a monthly multi-frequency radio monitoring of a sample of 35 blazars at the antennas in Medicina and Noto. We organise contemporaneous near-IR and optical observations for all our observing epochs which provides a valuable database of time dependent SEDs of our sample that is thought to complement the observations of current high-energy satellites, like the ASI gamma-ray satellite AGILE and the NASA FERMI GST gamma-ray satellite. Our monitoring is part of the GASP collaboration and participated in several WEBT campaigns.
This page is meant to provide an overview on the status of the radio monitoring and to present the current light curves (see table below). The observations are performed at the radio telescopes in Medicina and Noto* at 5, 8, 22, and 43 GHz. If you are interested in any of the data please contact ubach_at_mpifr.de.
