May 19, 2010 Medicina station report to EVN TOG meeting These items cover the period November 2009 - May 2010: 1) Mark5: - The operating system was updated to Debian Etch and kernel 2.6.18. - The sdk 8.3 and StreamStorm driver version 9.20 were also installed. Switching between e-vlbi and vlbi on disk is now straightforward. - The mark5 has been equipped with a new 10Gbit network card. - Our disk pool for astronomy is still 168TB for a total of 56 packs. No other purchases are planned. 2) Field System: - The Field System version is 9.10.4 (FSL8). We did not face any problem up to now. 3) Receivers: - The 22GHz multifeed receiver will be dismounted in few weeks for maintenance and upgrade, waiting to be sent to SRT site. 4) Antenna - The elevation wheel is still under constant monitoring. The status seems to be unchanged as well as the chances, poor, to get the funds for its replacement. - We experienced some failures with our subreflector during primary-secondary focus switching. The replacement of one subreflector drive has already been planned. 5) e-vlbi: - The upgrade to 10Gb/s is still a work in progress. IRA-INAF is working for the creation of a 10 Gb/s POP center in Bologna Headquarters. Our station will be connected to this pop in order to lightpath to JIVE. Devices needed have been bought but not installed yet. Negotiations with local network consortium about costs are going on but they still have to be finalized. - During 22 April e-vlbi session we faced a strange behaviour of the mark5 software from JIVE. It completely stops to respond and to send data; the reason for that is still unknown. 6) Maser: - We had some unlocks some instabilities in Our Efos4 maser. For that reason we ran a pair of experiments using a backup maser (Efos17) provided by the "T4Science", the company in charge of the maintainace of the maser. The problems were fixed by replacing a ionic pump and a power supplier and by adjusting some parameters about the pressure of the hydrogen. - A. Orfei A. Orlati G. Maccaferri
