September 12,2008 Medicina station report to EVN TOG meeting These items cover the period November 2007 - September 2008: 1) Mark5: - A Mark5B+ has been bought but not cabled to formatter. Some preliminary tests already done (TVG recording) - Since last November a purchase of disks has been finalized, the total amount of the disk pool for astronomy is now 122TB. We also have extra disks available to repopulate two 960GB modules. 2) Field System: - It is now running the 9.9.0 version - We plan to upgrade our control PC to the Field System Linux 7 in the next future. 3) Receivers: - The multifeed system was mounted on the 32m in march 2008. Since then optics alignment were done and a pointing model is available. It is a receiver for SRT but it will be used on the Medicina antenna until the new telescope will be ready. First test shows that the central horn, that one to be used for VLBI shows a Tsys of about 75K at 45 degree of elevation with a tau=0.1. The antenna gain is about 0.1-0.11K/Jy. The feed system was designed to have the best performance in term of crosspolarization in the VLBI band. We are confident that the central receiver will be available for the incoming VLBI session. 4) Antenna elevation wheel - Unfortunately INAF came back to the decision to fund the replacement of the 32m elevation wheel A.
