Station report for Effelsberg (Nov 2004) ============================= - Most observations during the last sessions went smoothly. After switching to MK5-only, the majority of experiments ran on the MK4/MK5-terminal. Between the sessions, many experiments took place on the MK4- (eg. for the Global mm VLBI Array), and the VLBA-terminal (VLBA+EB, High Sensitivity Array). - The water vapour radiometer for providing auxiliary phase and delay measurements for VLBI has been installed at the telescope site. First tests (during the 3mm GMVA observations) show encouraging results. For more information see: http://www.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de/staff/aroy/wvr.html - The project 'new subreflector' for the 100m-telescope has just started. We expect the new secondary mirror with an active surface (with higher accuracy), improved focus drive, and better frequency agility to be installed in summer 2006. - A new 21cm-system with better performance is currently under construction. - The 50cm-receiver is currently not available. - Axel Jessner (jessner@mpifr-bonn.mpg.de) joined the VLBI team in Effelsberg and will share responsibilities with Alex Kraus.
