Effelsberg Station report ========================= The mk4 tape machine has been permanently replaced by a mk5a unit. All observations to be correlated at JIVE and Bonn are now recorded on mk4/mk5a using disk packs. A second mk5 unit may be purchased for Effelsberg. MPI has purchased approximately 65 disc packs to support both EVN and millimetre experiments. Tape recording on the VLBA terminal is still used for experiments sent to Socorro. A total of 66 8-packs have been assembled with a total capacity of about 81 TB. Because of the limited bandwidth of the standard IF system (100-200 MHz) we have changed to 200-500MHz for 6cm and shorter, and are building a unit to implement the "patch" command. See: http://www.mpifr-bonn.mpg.de/EVN/ifswreport.ps.gz New setups and oscillator values are needed. For the next session incoming schedule files will be modified as necessary. This new IF system also allow the mk4/5 terminal to have the same frequency agility as the VLBA terminal. The subreflector replacement is now in an advanced planning stage. This will considerably improve performance at 1.3cm and 7mm. A water-vapour radiometer has been developed and recently mounted on top of the focus cabin, see: http://www.mpifr-bonn.mpg/staff/aroy/wvr.html
