P. Burgess asked if there was any way that we could improve our communications with the VLBA/NRAO. T. Foley felt that we ought to have a representative from NRAO at the TWG minutes and that we should also participate in their meetings. P. Burgess hoped that Jaap Bregman and J. Buiter would visit NRAO to discuss the MkIV upgrade. J.D. Bregman noted that this was a busy time for NRAO staff with the VLBA and correlator about to enter production mode. M.A. Garrett noted that e-mail communication usually worked well but admitted that face-to-face discussions were also useful. H.S. Sanghera noted that part of the third JIVE support scientist's job would be to liase with the VLBA. Huib-Jan van Langevelde would take up this position in the summer of next year. H.S. Sanghera also suggested that it might be useful to time the TWG with some other astronomical conference at which NRAO staff might be attending.
P. Burgess noted that there had been a problem with tape shipments to the VLBA. Two sets of instructions had recently been announced on the VLBI exploder. The second of these superceeded the first and the instructions should be adopted by all the EVN stations. K. Ruf encouraged the other EVN telescopes to use the TRACK system. This had been agreed at the last meeting but only Effelsberg was using the system. M.A. Garrett noted that in the previously discussed exploder message the implication was that the system was not yet publicly available.
N.B. Since the TWG meeting Walter Alef has confirmed that TRACK is available and requests that we use it in the next session.
ACTION ITEM: VLBI friends to use the TRACK system from session 3 (1993) onwards.
