Line and Polarization Specials; Offline Software

Schilizzi reported that the number of polarization experiments was continuing to grow. Such experiments would be standard on the VLBA and we must be in a similar position. There was no manpower set aside to work on offline software analysis for such projects. It was hoped that these could be accommodated in existing packages. Spencer believed that one person was required to think about software issues. Schilizzi reported that Dave Shone (Jodrell bank) had tried to organize feedback on what the EVN wanted to be included in the AIPS++ projects. Porcas felt that the only way to tackle the problem was for someone to work a polarization experiment through the system. Schilizzi felt that the EVN could not write its own software system but would have to rely on AIPS or AIPS++. Calibration was another issue that would have to be addressed soon.

Graham enquired how the JIVE correlator tape drives were to be purchased. Schilizzi expected to buy eight in one year and eight in another. Burgess reported that Penny and Giles had been taken over by Bowthorpe and that Colin Tatesall had moved on. Porcas asked how much support JIVE expected to receive after the first four years. Schilizzi replied that this was unclear but that continued support was likely.
