20/6/2003 MEDICINA STATION REPORT 1)A complete refurbishment of the Medicina antenna is happening this summer in term of: -A complete substitution of the old cables mounted on the antenna. The project foresees the mounting of a new cable wrap and a new distribution of the cables network. -The mounting of the mechanical supporting structure for the new receivers configuration in the secondary focus cabin. -The mounting of the new servo system for the Medicina antenna. This substitution follows the installation of the same system at the Noto antenna. 2)All our VLBI receivers have ready the calibration files .rxg 3)The upgrade of the new MK5 recording system from prototype (MK5P) to MK5A has been delivered and installed 4)We purchased, and we have now available, a complete set of 4 disks pack with 8 120GB hard disks. 5)VLBI tests using MK5 were done and in FTT experiment MK5 was used to transfer, via ftp, small data packets in order to check fringes. 6)We developed a graphics interface for monitoring MK5 status (see e-mail from Giuseppe Maccaferri dated 16 June 2003) 7)FS version installed: 9.6.2 8)A computer program has been developed to automatically find the optimum focus position for subreflector and primary focus receivers. 9)It's in progress a call for tender, managed by italian side of GARR, to carry out high speed optical fibers links between Bologna city and the Medicina observatory. 10)Low noise amplifiers at 22GHz designed by Medicina microwave staff are under construction both in MMIC and Hybrid solution. 11)The executive phase regarding the construction of SRT has started, this will involve a lot of the Medicina technical staff.
